Competitions for the semester

February 10, 2012

We have a few different tournaments coming up for the club, the first one is limited to the regular members of the club & senior members as we take a trip to MA to compete in the 2012 Indoor Archer's Cup. (http://www.acearchers.com/indacup.html) This event shall test everyone's abilities to the max due to the number of high profiled archers attending.
The next two competitions for this semester we have an outdoor tournament planned for one of the weekends (date to be determined) and the Stony Brook Invitational which this club hosts at our off-campus indoor practice site. Anyone who has shot with us before may compete or shoot for fun at the outdoor tournament but you must have come shot with us off-campus a few times in order to qualify in attending the Stony Brook Invitational held for the 21st of April.

This year we have invited many archery clubs from various New York City colleges to attend. We have invited the archery clubs at FIT, Columbia University, Queens College, and of course our good friends at Baruch College to join us in this historical meetup in the battle of the colleges.
Our good friends at Baruch College and Columbia University have already accepted the invitation and we are currently waiting for FIT and Queens College to reply.

This semester is going to be big :)

As soon as we get the clearance to shoot outdoors, we will send an e-mail out informing everyone on our mailing list. If you haven't signed up to our mailing list already, use the form at the front page of this website or send an email to sbucofa@gmail.com with the title "ADD."

Campus Rec has moved all of the sports clubs to the Three Village Fields by South P last semester but they are having difficulties obtaining storage space and lights for the fields at the moment, so starting on the 20th of Febuary, we are expected to be able to use our old shooting space at the softball fields right across from the train station. (map can be found on this website.)

Good luck on your midterms :)

Exciting spring semester.

January 30, 2012

Ladies and gentlemen. I would like to give you people a sneak peak of what's in stored for the stony brook archery club during the spring semester.

Last fall, USG has passed their largest assest grant to date. That honour has been given to us, the Stony Brook Company of Archers. With this new funding available to us, we are planning on replacing all of our old equipment and buying a surplus of it so that more people can experience the sport of archery.
There were times in the past where many p...

Stony Brook vs Baruch @ Baruch Gymnasium - Oct. 29th, 2011

November 1, 2011
First of all i'd like to thank our good friends at Baruch for hosting this event and allowing us to shoot with them once again. Our two schools have always had good relations with each other and this is one of the main ways we keep in contact :)

Going into this fun shoot with Baruch, I not only wanted to see the growth of our two clubs, but the main point was to focus on our members who have been through a new training regiment that was developed. This regiment involved more mental training a...

Information for Fall 2011

September 20, 2011
Welcome back to Stony Brook for another great year!
As the administration changes, there will be more things to look forward to this year.

This year we have a new budgeting system and we are allowed to go to more events and buy more equipment without using our "main budget." we don't know how it works 100% yet but it sounds promising. Thank you USG and thank everyone for supporting the Stony Brook Company of Archers!

Pasted below is an e-mail sent out by our secretary, Mo, and it gives general ...

Wrap up of *correction* 2nd Annual */correction* Stony Brook Invitational

May 2, 2011
First of all i'd like to thank Smith Point Archery for helping us out so much with the shoot when our own student government bailed on us. It means a lot to actually have a range that we can call our home when even the university doesn't pay a lot of attention to us.
Also, a big shout-out to the Baruch Archery Club for making their way half way into Long Island to attend this shoot :D

As i pointed out before, competition is not neccesarily a place to win, but a place where you get to see the f...

1st Annual Stony Brook Invitational

April 29, 2011
31 Hours until the 1st Annual Stony Brook Invitational. Although many schools that we have invited to shoot with us could not make it to the competition, we will make the best out of it with the people that are able to show up. Hopefully this tradition of the Stony Brook Invitational will carry on throughout the years that this club is alive because competition is a great way where individuals will advance.
Most people don't know that there's a difference when you shoot in practice and when yo...

Site's new look!

March 30, 2011
Before, the black background version, I wanted the push a website out fast so the quality of it was not top notch and many things were left un-done.

Now that I actually have time, and one of my friends on an eboard of another club directly attacking my abilities - i have decided to push out Stony Brook Archery Website v1.2

New GFX, new pages, new outline - and most importantly, NEW GFX (i'm aware i said new graphics twice)

So look forward to a cleaner/better site in the upcoming weeks!

To Ti-Yogi!

March 20, 2011
As we are about to head out to ti-yogi for our first official team competition this year - there are many things that an archer must prepare for to get yourself ready for competition.
1) First and THE MOST important - A good nights sleep
    - Last night at 4:30am i fell victim to a real fire alarm in my building where we were outside for about 20 minutes while fire marshals/police/and RHDs find the ass hat who decided to light a few buds up in his room. A disturbed sleeping schedule for an ar...

Thoughts on first official scoring

March 11, 2011
When people score without being forced to do so, they generally do a lot better. Lets take, for example, a random thursday night where we ask members to score for themselves. They generally do a lot better.

Why is this?

It's because you're not under the pressure of competition.
A lot of our members this year just started archery, but that's okay. They will slowly get into the groove with proper practice. Being under the pressure of competition and shooting next to people who are better than you...
